Aleea Slappy Wilson
Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer
Aleea Slappy Wilson is the City of Norfolk’s first Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer. In this role she is driving Norfolk’s efforts to dismantle structural barriers and create true access and opportunity for residents and business owners. Aleea leads Norfolk’s newest department designed to advance equity in Norfolk through institutional strategies and external programming with a focus on creating Economic Opportunity through policy, procurement opportunities, and new and expanded resources for small, minority and women owned businesses.
Her current role is complemented by her previous work as a Senior Business Development Manager in Economic Development. In this role she developed the Small Business Initiative and created the Women’s Power Series designed to celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of women in Norfolk.
Aleea served in the International City Managers Associations (ICMA) inaugural Equity Officers Cohort and helped develop ICMA’s first Racial Equity Summit where she co-lead a presentation titled “Driving Equity Through Economic Opportunity”.
Aleea was named a 2021 Inside Business “40 under 40” and she is a recipient of the 2020 Woman of Distinction award from the Hampton Roads YWCA. She is a 2018 graduate of LEAD Hampton Roads and serves on the board of directors for the Park Place School.
Aleea earned her undergraduate degree from Hampton University and her Master’s degree from Eastern University.
